Pitch Document

(Harmony lost)

High Concept

An interactive adventure based game that explores the imaginations and fears of children. Target audience will be for the ages 5-16.

Brief description

The musical sound of children’s laughter floats past and fills the air as a world of play and discovery unfolds. A bright new world beseeching to be explored lays at hand as its lively inhabitants invite you to participate in their playful pastimes. The children’s laughter reigns true whilst the sky is bright, hiding any hints of underlying anxiety. As twilight descends on the world the laughter fades to reveal the hidden. As panic takes over, the children transform into misshapen creatures contorted by their fear. Unable to communicate they feed the fear, powerless to stop the transformation their eyes seem to implore you to help them. There is one solitary thing that seems to calm and reach them through the fear, the power of melody. Search the world and seek help, play on your interaction skills and knowledge to uncover the whereabouts of the only thing that can save the children, the music.

Characters

Protagonist - the player looks through the eyes of a child. The character has no fear in the world which allows them to explore and help the other children. (Player)

“The day kids” – Children that inhabit and play in the world, they will embody the sense of childlike freedom and playfulness. The characters will serve to encourage the player to interact, explore and co-operate. Through interaction they will give information to progress through the world. (NPC characters)

“The night kids” – As twilight falls, “the day kids” characters are overcome by their individual fears and anxieties which morphs them into monstrous forms. In these forms they are unstable and unable to communicate with the player, it is therefore up to the player to understand the fear and combat it. Once the fear is eradicated the character returns to their child form and continues to help the player on their journey to eliminate fear from the world. (NPC characters)

World

Day - A childlike land, with open sweeping landscapes. Bright colour’s will ensure a sense of joy and highlight the idea of play. The world will have a make believe quality about it as the world is represented through a child’s view. Colours, objects and other characters will be exaggerated.

Night[*]- Twilight sets in upon the childlike land bringing with it a completely different perspective. A different atmosphere is created, one of mystery and the unknown. The world is filled with lights that cast an uncertain glow and where once it was bright and inviting the ambiance has shifted to make the player feel uneasy about the environment.

Teaser Trailer (project 2, year 2)

Ok Wednesday we we're given a new brief to produce a 30 second teaser trailer. Me and my partner have decided to create an interactive world mainly aimed at children to play with the ideas of social interaction and exploration. My partner is hammering out some concept work for characters and I am figuering out the world. So far im just getting some ideas down on paper, these pictures are very crude and are by no means finished or will represent the world however I do like some of the aspects such as the idea of sweeping plains and the idea of a very open world. I also like the idea of willow trees which can incorporate some lighting effects.

Too much painting so very little time!

Ok so for the past two weeks I have been litrally been working non stop on actually painting some of the finalised drawings. Sitting at a computer for hours on end is not my ideal thought of fun I must be honest but Im hoping that If the paintings are to a high standard It might disguise the fact that I know nothing about Flash! My only main concern is that the deadline is looming and Im not even half ready, the only consulation is what I view as one of the main drawings is almost compleated. If Im lucky and I can work my arse off I might even finish It tomorrow.

Apart from that Ive done a few minor animations, nothing great but once they re also painted hopefully they ll be anough. I will post pictures as soon as Ive compleated the first drawing!

On a final note... why the hell do they not have more hours in a day...meh!

2nd week of Flash project

So we re into the second week of the new project and the last week of pre-production by all accounts. As a brief introduction this project is a flash based 'postcard' with a horror theme which has to incorporate the words 'demonic puppies' and 'AI'. Firstly i'd like to voice my own horror at this project.....flash...arrrgh....lecturer trying to teach me flash......further arrrgh! (Not that the lecturer isnt any good at what he does, just not a good teacher, this is an issue that really should be addressed.) Anyone that knows me would laugh at the thought of me creating a wonderful flash postcard and why? Because technology hates me pure and simple. At the moment I suppose this isnt that much of a problem because we re still in pre-production which means I dont have to worry about the technical side just yet.... although it is inching closer very slowly, god I hate the word yet.
So today after a weekend of putting work off and eating far too much takeaway I decided to get a move on and actually finalise some drawings. Luckly me and my partner in crime have decided more or less on our layout so its just a case of getting the drawings done and ready to digital paint. Currently Im working on a drawing ( think matrix style capsules ) of dog fetuses encased in technology. Very wierd sounding I know but Im hoping that with the other layers It ll work really well as a whole image. God I hope his project goes alright, Its a nightmare just thinking about it arrrrgh!

Well technically I should go work, bah work....must find motivation. I fact why dont they bottle that stuff, someone would make a killing off me.
